Farm Warehouse (914)This is the distribution point for agricultural supplies frequently needed in daily operations. Mattress/Broom/MopThis operation manufactures cotton, foam, and innerspring mattresses, special application mattresses (such as the suicide prevention mattress), pillows, brooms, push brooms, mops, scrub brushes, and squeegees. Metal FabricationThe Metal Fabrication plant produces a line of metal institutional products, such as bed frames, bunk beds, bed lockers, wall lockers, and benches. Finished products include customized metal items as well. PrintingThis shop offers a wide range of printing services, including printed forms, brochures, booklets, newsletters, business cards, binding services, and other special projects. Range HerdPrison Enterprises manages a herd of 1,600 cattle at Louisiana State Penitentiary. Steer calves are sold on the open market. Heifer calves are sent to the Department's heifer operation at Dixon Correctional Institute. Row CropsThis unit is responsible for growing and harvesting wheat, corn, cotton, and soybeans which are sold on the open market. Silk ScreenProduction of plastic and metal name plates, engraved employee name tags/badges in plastic and metal, screened decals, street and highway signs, screened aluminum, steel, and corrugated plastic signs, screening services for t-shirts and other textile items, and sale of sign hardware. Tag PlantThis plant produces vehicle license tags for Louisiana and various overseas customers. Tractor RepairThis shop repairs tractors and farm equipment for farm operations at LSP and other prison farm operations at locations across the state. TransportationThis division is responsible for delivery of Prison Enterprises' finished goods and agricultural commodities statewide. Seven full-time drivers are employed by Prison Enterprises Transportation. The division manages a fleet of eighteen trucks, including eight tractor/trailer rigs, twelve trailers, five dry box vans, and three refrigerated box vans. The fleet logged 382,475 cumulative miles in 2003. | ||
